MAKING YOUR MIND UP (B1+)

you gotta speed it up
and then you gotta slow it down
cos if you believe that a love can hit the top
you gotta play around
and soon you will find that there comes a time for making ur mind up
you gotta turn it up
and then you gotta cool it down
you gotta be sure that it´s something everybody’s gonna talk about
before you decide the time’s right for making your mind up

don’t let your indecision take you from behind
trust your inner vision
dont let others change your mind

and now you really gotta burn it up
and make another fly by night
getta run for your money
and take a chance
and it will turn out right
and when you see how it’s gotta be
your making your mind up!

and try to look as if you don’t care less
but if you wanna see some more
then the rules of the game
will let you find the one your looking for
and then you can show you think you know
that your making your mind up

don’t let your indecision take you from behind
trust your inner vision
don’t let others change your mind

and now you really gotta speed it up
and then you gotta slow it down
cos if you believe that a love can hit the top
you gotta play around
and soon you will find that there comes a time for making your mind up

and now you really gotta speed it up
and then you gotta slow it down
cos if you believe that a love can hit the top
you gotta play around
and soon you will find that there comes a time for making ur mind up

for making your mind up

for making your mind up

for making your mind up

I KNOW, I KNOW… IT´S A GOLDEN OLDIE BUT I LEARNT THIS EXPRESSION WHEN BUCK FIZZ WON THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST IN 1981.

Good Luck

  1. Lucky to meet a black cat. Black Cats are featured on many good luck greetings cards and birthday cards in England.
  2. Lucky to touch wood .
  3. Lucky to find a clover plant with four leaves.
  4. A horseshoe over the door brings good luck. But the horse shoe needs to be the right way up. The luck runs out of the horse shoe if it is upside down.
  5. On the first day of the month it is lucky to say “white rabbits, white rabbits white rabbits,” before uttering your first word of the day.
  6. Catch falling leaves in Autumn and you’re have good luck. Every leaf means a lucky month next year.

Bad Luck

  1. Unlucky to walk underneath a ladder
  2. Seven years bad luck to break a mirror.
  3. Unlucky to see one magpie, lucky to see two, etc..
  4. Unlucky to spill salt. If you do, you must throw it over your shoulder to counteract the bad luck.
  5. Unlucky to open an umbrella in doors.
  6. The number thirteen is unlucky. Friday the thirteenth is a very unlucky day. Friday is considered to be an unlucky day because Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
  7. Unlucky to put new shoes on the table.
  8. Unlucky to pass someone on the stairs.

1. Which British superstitions are similar to those in your country?

2. Which are different?

3. Do you know anything about the origins of some of the superstitions in your country?

4. Can you give the definition of “superstition”?

Yeah Yeah Yeah [x4]

I love you
But I gotta stay true
My morals got me on my knees
I’m begging please stop playing games

I don’t know what this is
But you’ve got me twitchin’
Like you knew you would

I don’t know what you do
But you do it well
I’m under your spell

[Chorus:]
You got me begging you for mercy
Why wont you release me?
You got me begging you for mercy
Why wont you release me?
I said release me

Now you think that I
Will be something on the side
But you’ve got to understand
That I need a man
Who can take my hand
Yes I do

I don’t know what this is
But you’ve got me twitchin’
Like you knew you would

I don’t know what you do
But you do it well
I’m under your spell

You’ve got me begging you for mercy
Why wont you release me?
You’ve got me begging you for mercy
Why wont you release me?
I said you’d better release yeah yeah yeah

I’m begging you for mercy
Just why won’t you release me
I’m begging you for mercy

You got me begging
You got me begging
You got me begging

Mercy, why won’t you release me
I’m begging you for mercy
Why won’t you release me?

You got me begging you for mercy
I’m begging you for mercy
I’m begging you for mercy
I’m begging you for mercy
I’m begging you for mercy

Why wont you release me?
Yeah yeah

Break it down

(Mercy)
Beggin’ you for mercy
You’ve got me beggin’
Down on my knees
I said, you’ve got me beggin’
Beggin’ you for mercy
You’ve got me beg-ee-ee-een
Ee-ee-een (repeat)
(Fade)
