Real Madrid are thrashed 4-0 by modest Segunda B side Alcorcón in the King’s Cup

The largest of upsets in the fourth round of the King’s Cup in Spain on Tuesday night, as modest Segunda B team Alcorcón beat Real Madrid 3-0, and that was only at half time.
Real Madrid’s Arbeloa did hit the netting in the first half, but in his own goal. With Raul, Benzema and Guti all starting for Real Madrid, everyone expected Real to come back in the second half, although Guti was replaced by Gago at half time, but it was soon 4-0 as Borja scored his second for Alcorcón.

Quite how a team which has cost 400 million € to assemble is beaten by one which has cost a mere one million is the question many Spanish commentators are asking, witness to the failures of the Real defence. Ridiculous Real Madrid is a repeated headline, with some saying it was one of the worst performances in the club’s history. The future of the Real manager Pellegrini must surely be in danger. Manuel Pelligrini said after the match that he was embarrassed by his side’s performance, but he ruled out any talk of resignation.
