DID CONTADOR WIN …or… CHEAT? (B1)
It has been revealed that the winner of the Tour de France, Spain’s Alberto Contador, tested positive for Clenbuterol on the last rest day of the race.
The rider made the finding public himself, and claims that the only way it could have happened from food contamination.
Although levels found were considered to be no more than trace if the cycling controlling body, UCI, decides to take action he could be stripped of the Tour de France win and face a two-year ban from the sport. For now he has been ‘formally and provisionally’ suspended.
Speaking to the press in his home town of Pinto, Madrid, at noon Thursday he said it was like being condemned to the electric chair and not being able to say anything about it.
