LET´S GO GREEN ON 24th OCTOBER !

samarreta_estimemhuelga

As you must know, Spain is getting ready for a nationwide education strike tomorrow  (24th OCTOBER). Demonstrations throughout Spain have been organized by trade unions, students, teachers and parents´associations to express their protest against the reform of the education system and the cuts in public spending.

Although the main event  will take place tomorrow, a three-day strike  started last Tuesday called by the students´unions.

Some of the controversial reforms  for university students are the cutbacks in students´ grants, the sharp rise in univerisity fees and the job insecurity faced by many teachers . However in primary , secondary schools  as well as in state schools of languages there  is concern over the increase in pupil-teacher ratios and the increase in teachers´workload,  job losses, and budget cuts in areas as essential as teacher training, ……

“It is materially impossible to maintain standards of education quality if, amongst other things, far fewer teachers have to take care of many more pupils,” stated  the General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen.
