SPANISH KING´S SISTER TO STAND TRIAL ON TAX FRAUD CHARGES (LOW B2)
A judge investigating an embezzlement and tax fraud case involving the sister of Spanish King Felipe VI announced on Monday morning that Cristina de Borbón will stand trial for her alleged involvement in the offenses.
Judge José Castro has been investigating the business affairs of Iñaki Urdangarin, the husband of the infanta, as Cristina is known. He stands accused of siphoning off millions of euros in public funds awarded to his non-profit organizations.
The judge has decided to put Urdangarin’s wife on trial for tax offenses, based on evidence that she may have cooperated in the same fraudulent actions in 2007 and 2008. Judge Castro is also asking for a €2.6-million financial liability from Cristina de Borbón.
The hearings could begin as early as the second half of 2015, in a Palma courtroom.

BAN ON LOTTERY TV DRAW USING CHILDREN (LOW B2)
Disabled society calls for ban on lottery TV draw using children
By: thinkSPAIN , Tuesday, December 16, 2014
AN ASSOCIATION for the disabled has called for the Christmas lottery to be suspended because it ‘uses minors’ to promote it.
Every year on December 22, the children from the San Ildefonso primary school in Madrid ‘sing’ the winning numbers on TV as they draw them out, a tradition dating back decades.
But the organisation OID has filed legal action with the youth prosecution services against what it calls ‘child labour’.
It says images on TV show children selling tickets, which it considers to be against the law.
The OID wants the lottery to be put off until the State betting board can ‘guarantee that minors will not be used in promoting’ the famous El Gordo national draw.
Instead, the organisation wants to see ‘persons representative of the disabled community’ drawing the winning numbers on the TV.
According to the organisation, 10 years ago legal action was taken against the national lottery in aid of the blind, ONCE, ordering them to cease using models for their draws because it ‘showed a sexist image of women’ as ‘objects of beauty’.
