    Hi to everyone!
In the photo above, you can see the ´Mercado Central´ of Valencia, and in the photo below the ´Mercado de Colon´, both located in the heart of the city center. They´re wonderful markets built in modernist style, recognized as an important part of the architectural city heritage.
As far as I know, towards the end of this year it will be the 100th opening anniversary, which is the reason why the buildings have received press coverage.
The big snail in the photo below, has to do with the original outside decor, and it´s a part of the first of three artistic exhibition, to commemorate the anniversary.
Nowadays, traditional market places have been replaced by shopping centres, and small local shops by chain stores.
There isn´t any market near my house, but I love going shopping to the Central Market in the city center which is not far away. It´s like traveling back in time and find the old butcher´s and its typical smell, the fishmonger´s where you can find the freshest fish and seafood (and its smell too…), baker´s with all kind of bread and pastry, some specialized food and deli stalls, greengrocer´, an off-licence or a newsagent´s even. However, the stall I like the most is the florist´s where I usually buy some plants.
