PRESENT PERFECT? U2 (1B1)

LISTEN TO THIS  SONG  BY U2  AND FILL IN THE GAPS WITH EXAMPLES OF THE PRESENT PERFECT:

I (1) ________________the highest mountains.
I (2) ________________through the fields
only to be with you,
only to be with you.
I (3) ________________.
I (4) ________________.
I (5) ________________these city walls,
these city walls,
only to be with you.

But I still (6) ________________what I’m looking for.
But I still (7) ________________ what I’m looking for.

I (8) ________________hardened lips.
Felt the healing fingertips.
It burned like fire–
this burning desire.

I (9) ________________with the tongue of angels.
I (10) ________________the hand of a devil,
It was warm in the night.
I was cold as a stone.

But I still (11) ________________what I’m looking for.
But I still (12) ________________what I’m looking for.

I believe in the kingdom come,
then all the colors will bleed into one,
bleed into one.
Well, yes I’m still running.

You broke the bonds
and you loosed the chains,
carried the cross
of my shame,
of my shame.
You know I believed it.

But I still (13) ________________ what I’m looking for.
But I still (14) ________________ what I’m looking for.
But I still (15) ________________ what I’m looking for.

  1. Hi Carmen,

I think the singer is talking about the actions that he have done. In English the tense that must be used about vital experiences is presente perfect.

    Have a nice day

I think the singer talking about recents past actions and life experiencies, for that reason he uses present perfect. But He still haven’t found what he looking for. Now I wonder myself, Who have already found what I’m looking for?…
    See you on Thuesday
