“THE CROWN”, A BRITISH TV SERIES ON NETFLIX (1B2, B2 C1, C2)

the-crown

Netflix‘s ambitious new series The Crown is the most expensive TV series to date, costing the streaming service over $130 million (via Daily Beast). A lavish – and thoroughly British – affair which sees the reunion of the creative team behind 2006’s Oscar-winning biopic The Queen, starring Helen Mirren. Screenwriter Peter Morgan and producer Andy Harries are here joined by Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry.

Taking its basis from Morgan’s 2013 play The Audience, the series is set to trace the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from her early years to the present day, balanced over the course of six seasons of 10 episodes each. The show promises to tell, “the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.”

HOW TO KEEP UP YOUR ENGLISH DURING THE SUMMER …(ALL LEVELS)

divein

ONCE THE FINAL SCORES HAVE BEEN MADE PUBLIC YOU CAN BREAK UP FOR YHE SUMMER HOLIDAY….LUCKY YOU! SUMMER IS ROUND THE CORNER BUT  I HAVEN´T  FINISHED THE SCHOOL YEAR YET……I´M ABOUT TO START “CERTIFICACIÓN”  AND FEELING A BIT BURNT OUT !!

ANYWAY, I KNOW YOU’RE  TIRED  AFTER THE COURSE BUT THE SUMMER IS LONG AND I DON´T WANT YOU TO FORGET WHAT YOU´VE LEARNED THIS YEAR: “IF YOU DON´T USE IT, YOU LOSE IT”. ALL OF US ENJOY THE SUMMER BUT SOMETIMES WE RELAX SO MUCH THAT WE TEND TO FORGET OUR ENGLISH. IT´S IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ENGLISH AND THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS WE CAN DO IT.

SO…., THE THING IS….WHAT CAN YOU DO TO KEEP UP YOUR ENGLISH IN SUMMER?

I´M PREPARING A POST WITH SUITABLE ADVICE  BUT CAN YOU HELP ME WITH YOUR SUGGESTIONS, IDEAS AND LINKS? WHAT CAN YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR ENGLISH ALIVE DURING THE SUMMER?

MY FIRST TIP THIS YEAR IS:

What is HiNative?

HiNative is a global Q&A (QUESTION & ANSWER) platform that allows you to ask native speakers all your language and culture questions. Forget about a dictionary or doing a web search, there is no better source than a native speaker and with HiNative they are within reach.

Hinative is a give-and-take platform and though you don’t necessarily have to do it, the thing is that I also liked the idea of helping others with questions about my own native language and so the site got me entertained for a long while. You can also download their free app on your mobile phone. MY SECOND TIP IS:

Stitcher is a smartphone app that lets you aggregate radio shows and podcasts, stored on your phone for on demand listening or streaming from the web. Read more….

MY THIRD TIP IS:

meetup-logo-script-1200x630

Meetup is an application on your mobile that brings people together in thousands of cities to do more of what they want to do in life. It is organized around one simple idea: when we get together and do the things that matter to us, we’re at our best. And that’s what Meetup does. It brings people together to do, explore, teach and learn.

Fran is using it to practise his English with other foreigners living or staying in Valencia. So,  find or create a group that meets your interests, i.e.LEARNING  FOREIGN LANGUAGES  Why don´t you try?   (  LOOK FOR intercambio inglés/español) Read more…

POST YOUR OWN IDEAS FOR EVERYBODY TO SHARE….

ANY RECOMMENDATION WILL BE WELCOME!!!

A UNIVERSITY STUDENT ASKED ME TO MAKE CIRCULATE THIS SURVEY FOR STUDENTS IN ORDER TO COMPLETE SOME OF HIS RESEARCH….

Alberto Monroy
