  1. Amparo Martinez

    Hello M Carmen:

My name is Amparo Martinez. I´m fourty-eight years old. I live in Valencia with my husband and my three sons. I´m Chemist and I worked about quality systems in Health. I studied a master about food tecnology and nutrition, and another about systems health. I was working a lot, until I felt ill. I had a brain hemorrhage and this made me to take a breath. So I decided to do things that I always wanted to do, like study English, so here I am.
I´m your pupil on Tuesday and Thrusday in the level NI1. Last course, I was lucky because I did two courses in one year and here I am.
I studied English a long time ago, and I don´t remember which level I had. I studied at the school, and at the University. I like listening music a lot, and I like hearing the words of the song, so I usually understand the songs. Sometimes I have travelled abroad and I have spoken in English, very bad, worse, but finally the people have understood me. This is that I´ve practiced last years.
I hope to learn a lot this year, so i will do my homeworks by the day.(al dia?) I´ve sailed on your blog. It´s the first time that I do. I din´t Know a blog. I think that it´s great, fantastic, because we can practice more, it´s an instrument for learning more. Thank you for that.
    Have a nice weekend.

  2. Irene Ferrando Colom

    Hi Carmen,
I’m Irene Ferrando, and I’d like to tell you about my English knowledges.
I’ve had several moments in my life to learn English.
The first was when I went to school. I was 15, and until 17 I was learning English.
After that, I went to several English academies, but I never finished the year, because they were very very boring.
I’ve never had a good English level to have a conversation.

I worked for an international company, for 32 years and if I’d known English I would have gone to work to New York or London for one year, because the company has local offices.

Nowadays I’m unemployed, but It’s a personal challenge to can understand English or American people and I’d like to be able to travel round those countries.

    See you on Monday.

    Best regards.

  5. Hi Carmen,

I’m Javi your student of intermediary course. I live in Valencia, near the beach, where I was born forty years ago. I live in a flat with my wife, my baby and one playful cat. I met my wife at this school of language two years ago in basic level. But we can’t go together this course because one of the two has to look after our daughter. So I go to school Monday and Wednesday and my wife Tuesday and Thursday, but the problem will be on Friday schooldays.

I work in a transport public company; we give service all days of year, so I have work some weekends and festivals periods. When I don’t stay working or looking after my daughter I try to do sport. I love ride on bicycle, run along the beach and swing.

I like travelling. Last holidays my family and me went to a little village in Cuenca called Santa Maria de Campo Rus. My father in law has a big house there. In the village there aren’t a lot of things to do, the landscape and the environment isn’t very nice. But there are a lot of calm, the children can play in the streets, all the people is polite and never anybody is in a hurry. Ideal to unwind from daily stress. Also I went to Dublin without my family. The trip to Dublin was a present of my wife; it was a great surprise for me! In Dublin I meet with three friends from Spain. We had a good time.

I hope with this e-mail that you know to me a little.

    See you the next class.

    Javi.

  12. Hi Carmen:
I don’t really know if this is the propper place to write my question so, if it isn’t, I’m sorry.

I want to practise listenings and I think the cinema is a good thing to do it, but if you choose “English” at a Dvd it is often American English. One person said me that in some dvd’s you can choose “comercial English” but is it British english? and how can you know that before you buy it?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Sometimes there´s a flag to let you know whether it´s British or American English, but many times you don´t really know unless you use original versions. That is to say, I know that the King´s Speech is a British film, so I will listen to British English but “The Black Swan” will be American English.
There’s much more choice with American English, I´m afraid.

    • Hello Carmen.

I wanted to tell you our last class that I found a company who specifies the nationality of their films on the back cover but I forgot to tell you this. It’s “Manga films”. I have only three or four films (the stupids’ dinner, false appariences…) and only one is from U.K “Life of Brian” that one friend lent me. So at least, there is a company who tell us what kind of English uses in their films.
I hope that’s useful to other students those like me, love the cinema.
      See you on monday.

Mcarmen, I’m registered long time ago in this page . There are a lot of possibilities on it, depending on your interests and your goal. They send you e-mails with listenings, grammar tips and other things very interesting.
It is all free and even help you prepare the TOEFL exam or FCE, but specially there is a lot of audio material and readings.

  16. I don´t know if this is the correct place for doubts.
I don’t understand why is c) the correct answer in this exercise. I think the correct answer is d):
Which plural is the odd one out?
    a) diaries b) babies c) kisses d) keys
Another question: Is correct “in summer” and “in the summer”? I thought only “in summer” was right.
In the pack New English File Pre-Intermediate there aren’t any keys for Entry Checker. How can I know if my answers are right?

    • WHAT EXERCISE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
LET ME KNOW IN CLASS, OK?
AS FOR THE ENTRY CHECKER, THERE SHOULD BE A KEY FOR SELF-CORRECTION.

  19. Hello Carmen. I have somes questions about English and I think that this is the correct place for write everyone.

    1)The first is: when I write one composition about 80 words;
If I write “name´s”, there are 2 words and If I write “I´m in”, there´re are 3 words, really?

2)The second and the last question is about the page that you give our in class last week::

When I speak about years: I can say “Luciana´s three years old” and “Adriano´s five “, could you explain why?

When I write in English I´m very confused which ” got and have.” I know that got is an English expresion and Have is more usual say it in American. Could you explain that is the difference between both?

Ah! I was done oll my exercices and my Profile at about 80 words, but unfortunally I won´t go to class next Monday, because I will go to doctor.

  20. Hi Carmen,I was readind “Nelson Mandela”, a book about him. I´m thinking to do a power-point about my book. What do you think in this respect?

Well, It isn´t true!, I had read “Anne of green gables”, but I don´t like it and I prefer to talk about Nelson Mandela.

In fast I had read this book last year, but this month Mandela died and I like doing this because Yesterday I watched a film on TV about Nelson, but the film was following my book story. The film was “Invictus”.
