I WISH / IF ONLY…. (LOW B2)
As you know, we use ‘wish’ + past perfect to talk about regrets from the past. These are things that have already happened but we wish they had happened in a different way.
Think back to the time when you were teenagers. Do you have any have any regrets?
For example: I wish I hadn’t given up my studies.
You are going to watch a video of a song Mistakes of my Youth by the American rock band Eels. In this video, the singer thinks back on his childhood and all the things he did wrong. After watching the video, write down as many I wish/if only + past perfect sentences you can think of based on the video.
What are your regrets when you think back on your life? Make a list of three regrets and tell the story to your partner.

IF YOU ARE GETTING READY FOR THE EXAM , YOU CAN TRY LISTENING TO THESE ELEMENTARY PODCASTS FROM THE BBC. YOU CAN TRY BY CLICKING ON THE PICTURE BELOW. THERE´S AN APP AVAILABLE TOO FOR MOBILES AND TABLETS.
While you listen
Elementary Podcasts are suitable for learners with different levels of English. Here are some ways to make them easier (if you have a lower level of English) or more difficult (if you have a higher level of English). You can choose one or two of these suggestions – you don’t have to do all of them!
Making it easier
Read all the exercises before you listen to the podcast. Look up the words in the exercises that you don’t know in a dictionary. Play the podcast as many times as you need. Play each part of the podcast separately. Read the transcript after you have listened to the podcast. Making it harder Listen to the podcast before you read the exercises. Only play the podcast once before answering the questions. Play the whole podcast without a break. Don’t read the transcript. Now, listen to the podcast and do the exercises on the following tabs. YOU COULD ALSO TRY PODCASTS IN ENGLISH.COM. MAYBE YOU WILL FIND THEM EASIER!! YOU HAVE THE TRANSCRIPT TOO!! CLICK ON THE PICTURE BELOW TO GO TO THE SITE.GO TO LEVEL 1.

REGRETS (LOW B2)
REGRET: “to feel sorrow or remorse for (an act, fault, event, etc.)
THIS IS WHAT I PUBLISHED LAST YEAR…..
“IF I HADN´T SPENT SO MUCH PUBLIC MONEY, THERE WOULDN´T HAVE BEEN ANY LEAKS AT ALL”
THE THIRD CONDITIONAL CAN BE USED TO EXPRESS REGRETS.
THIS IS WHAT HAS JUST BEEN PUBLISHED THIS WEEK…
“A judge in Valencia has asked the Supreme to investigate Barberá for money laundering.”
“IF SHE HADN´T DONATED MONEY TO HER POLITICAL PARTY, SHE WOULDN´T BE UNDER INVESTIGATION NOW”
THIS IS A MIXED CONDITIONAL.
